About Us

SuperNOVA was established in 2013 when two visionary students approached the Osbourn Park Metal Jackets 2068 coach with a bold idea: to create a county-wide robotics team that would cater to all students in Prince William County Schools. With the support of Osbourn Park, we found our first home there and embarked on our journey.

In our inaugural year of competition, we achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Rookie All-Star award at the FRC World Championships, setting the stage for our commitment to excellence.

In 2017, under the leadership of Karen Cinnamon and Carlos Castro, SuperNOVA embarked on a transformative chapter. We made the strategic decision to relocate to Woodbridge High School, a move aimed at better serving students in the southern and eastern regions of Prince William County. This change not only expanded our reach but also enabled us to connect with students who lacked access to FIRST robotics programs at their respective base schools.

We are an All-County Team for any high school student attending Prince William County Schools in Virginia. Students will work to design, build and program a robot in 8 weeks then compete in tournaments against other high school teams in the DMV area. Robotics is a sport for the mind; it blends applied physics, mathematics, programming, prototyping and design, integrated problem solving, teamwork, and leadership. Students who are successful in robotics must work well under pressure and work well with others.

SuperNOVA’s history is a testament to our dedication to collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain steadfast in our mission to inspire and empower the next generation of STEM leaders.
