Subteams

No prior experience is necessary to join any subteam!

Mechanical

Our mechanical team is responsible for the design and fabrication of the robot. They use the CAD (computer-aided design) software Onshape to model the robot’s design digitally. Then, they use shop tools including a CNC router, table saw, drill press, and bandsaw to create the components. Students also use handheld power tools such as drills and dremels.

To join Mechanical, no prior knowledge is necessary! Reach out to our mechanical lead, Karma Zalavadia, for more details at karzalava@gmail.com.

Programming

Our programming team is responsible for the controls and automation of the robot. They use Java and FRC’s standard library, WPILib. They also implement external libraries such as PathPlanner and Limelight. PID controllers, computer vision, motion profiling, state space control, pathfinding, and logging are all examples of what programming implements.

Feel free to contact our programming lead, Sophia Ramirez-Jam, for more details at sophiaramirezjam@gmail.com.

Electrical

Our electrical team is responsible for wiring the robot. They work with mechanical to develop a bellypan, the bottom plate of the robot that holds the electronics. They also advise during the design process to accommodate wiring for complex mechanisms like elevators or turrets. During the wiring process, they solder and crimp wires throughout the robot and use wire-management solutions like 3D-printed energy chain. They also create custom circuits.

Contact our electrical lead, Jonathan Lopez, for more details at jonathan.a.lopez27@gmail.com or contact Karma Zalavadia at karzalava@gmail.com.

Business

Our business team is responsible for fundraising and creating promotional materials. Did you know that we operate with a $20k+ budget? Business members are responsible for applying to grants, cold emailing and calling sponsors, curating social media, creating newsletters, taking and editing good pictures and videos, and updating the website. Thankfully, business offers a very flexible schedule compared to the other subteams because most of it happens in the offseason.

We are currently in need of a business lead! If you have prior business experience and are interested, please contact Karma Zalavadia at karzalava@gmail.com or Sophia Ramirez Jam at sophiaramirezjam@gmail.com.

Data Science

Our data science team manages the scouting and strategy. They collect and manipulate team performance data using regressions and data models to predict winners. The information they collect helps our drive team make decisions about strategy. It also helps our team choose alliance partners. If you are interested in Excel, machine learning, data science, or sports analysis, data science is for you!
