What is SuperNOVA?
We are a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team based at Woodbridge High School in Prince William County.
How many people on on your team?
Twenty people from various schools around Prince William County.
What do you do at meetings?
Depends on what area you choose to work in. There is Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, and Marketing. The Mechanical team works on building the robot, the Electrical team wires the robot and sets up the electrical board, and the Programming team is responsible for programming the robot and coordinating with the Mechanical team for sensors. The Marketing team is responsible for marketing the team to other teams and to sponsors.
What are the leadership positions?
We have a president and a vice presidents of each subteam. Then within each subteam we have captains of certain projects and we also have drive team. We're such a small team that most students get the opportunity to lead a project.
How do competitions work?
There are qualification matches for the first half of the tournament. In these matches, two alliances of three teams each are chosen at random to play against each other. After the qualification matches, the top 8 teams select two other teams to compete in the elimination round with them. The 8 alliances then compete against each other in a best 2 out of 3 single elimination bracket.
What does your robot do?
That varies depending on the year, but this year our goal is to have our robot pick up and carry cubes, and climb at least a foot off the ground from essentially a pull-up bar.
